TV Antenna System Planned For Tower

The Freedom Tower will act as a national monument, an office tower, and, from the looks of things, part of the television broadcasting system.  A serious push to add antennas to the building is underway.

Amanda Fung writes that Saul Shapiro, President of the Metropolitan Television Alliance President, “will use his 16 years of technology and media experience to lead the MTVA’s efforts to design and build a new antenna system at the top of the Freedom Tower, which will be the tallest structure in the city.”

Nothing seems to stand in Shapiro’s way, so the antenna system will almost surely become part of the building.  The one issue is that the Freedom Tower isn’t due to be finished until after the switch to digital television takes place, so there will be a couple of years during which temporary solutions will have to be used.

Still, playing host to the antennas will be another way in which the new structure is able to fulfill the old one’s duties.  Also, the antennas shouldn’t in any way slow down or interfere with construction, as Shapiro stated, “I know a lot of folks and the issues.”
